5 Recent Reads

I’m an avid reader, in fact I can’t actually physically go to sleep unless I have read at least a few pages of my latest novel.  Something about losing my head in a book just relaxes my body and relieves any stresses or tensions I have had during a long day and I actually find I sleep better too.

I used to be a strictly paper and pages girl but since I upped my reading game a little more it seemed to make so much more sense to get a Kindle and I haven’t looked back!  Of course the feel and look of a good solid book is priceless but in terms of storage and ease a Kindle is the way forward.

I don’t know if I have ever really shared my passion for reading and what books I enjoy on my blog before so I thought it would be nice to do a little series of recent reads.  I tend to go through a book every fortnight or so and here are some top reads I’ve been enjoying over the last few months.

Lies by T M Logan

A lot of the books I’ve read this year are thrillers with some sort of unexpected plot twist!  Lies is most certainly fully in that category.  It centres around a man named Joe Lynch who stumbles across his wife driving randomly in a hotel car park when she shouldn’t be.  He of course follows her to find out what she is doing and that’s when things start to happen and it all gets pretty creepy.  I’m not going to go much further with this one but it had me gripped from page one.  I really love it when stories start immediately instead of giving you a huge build up beforehand, Lies is certainly one of those books.

The Girl Before by J P Delaney

I’m cheating a little with this one as I am actually still read it but I couldn’t not mention The Girl Before because it is soooo good!!  The story flits between two women, Emma and Jane.  Emma being in the not so distant past and Jane being in the present. They both take up residence in the same house, built by obsessive minimalist Edward.  The house comes with rules and regulations, everything is controlled and the space is intended to transform its occupant. Without giving too much away the women seem to follow the same patterns, choices and cross paths with the exact same people including some really creepy and terrifying situations.  I am totally and utterly hooked, I can’t put it down!!  If you’re into minimalism, a little bit of raunchiness and that Gone Girl’esque genre this one is for you!

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

I really though that The Couple Next Door was going to be a total cliché book.  Baby goes missing, couple are frantically searching for her blah blah blah.  But it really was anything but that!  Expect the unexpected with this one.  Again its another thriller with twists and turns with every new chapter and so far everyone I have recommended it to has loved it.

The Bad Mother’s Diary by Suzy K Quinn

After reading a string of particularly creepy thrillers I decided I needed to throw in a real girly silly funny read.  The amazon description on The Bad Mother’s Diary says its “laugh out loud funny” which I usually completely disagree with, but this read really had me giggling!  It’s a complete cliché of a story, a new mums relationship is in tatters, meets man of her dreams, few bumps along the way but al is happily ever after in the end!  Don’t read this if you want something realistic and romantic, its not that at all.  Its just an easy read, especially relatable to new mums!

Before I Go To Sleep by S J Watson

Perhaps saving the best until last, Before I Go to Sleep is now actually one of my favourite books!   This story is that of Christine Lucas, whom everyday wakes up with all her memories completely gone.  Her husband explains to her every day what has happened to her and who she is and every day is a struggle, but of course all is not what it seems.  Again I can’t go into much detail on this one as there are a TON of twists and I loved every second.  As you can see from the cover of the book it has been adapted into a film – I would give the film a miss though as they changed too many details for my liking, which took away a lot of the drama of the story for me and left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed.

I hope you enjoyed this sort of blog post, please let me know if you do!  If you would prefer a video or just a blog post reviewing each book next time then do let me know that as well.  I would also really love to hear what you’re reading as I obviously read pretty quickly and I’m always looking for something new to download!
